A Fixed Device Shrine TOTK Puzzle Solution

Exploring Central Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom presents players with creative challenges that test their understanding of game mechanics. Located in the Exchange Ruins south of Lookout Landing, the Mayachin Shrine houses the intriguing A Fixed Device puzzle. Completing this trial requires building a custom mechanism to strike rolling balls toward target switches.

Understanding the Mayachin Shrine Setup

Upon entering the shrine, players navigate across a rotating platform to reach a lower chamber featuring a central platform and an interactive crystal switch. Stepping on the pressure plate near the edge reveals a large orange target on the left side of the room. Spheres continuously spawn from a top chute and roll down a sloped ramp toward the open pit.

To solve the challenge, you must construct a flipper mechanism that mimics a pinball or baseball setup. The central rotating base serves as the primary motor for swinging whatever extensions you attach using Ultrahand.

Building the Bat Mechanism

To begin construction, jump down into the lower pit where several Zonai stakes and white cylinders rest. Select one stake using Ultrahand and insert it horizontally into the central rotating device. Next, attach two white poles end-to-end onto the stake to extend its reach toward the path of the rolling ball.

Return to the upper platform near the crystal switch to test your contraption. Hitting the crystal switch with a weapon triggers the central mechanism to rotate sharply. Using a fast weapon like a short sword helps reduce attack lag, making it easier to hit the ball right as it reaches the designated launch zone.

Unlocking the Optional Treasure Chest

After hitting the first target, the doorway to the altar opens and reveals a second target on the right side. A hanging wooden board blocks the path of any ball aimed toward this secondary target. To bypass this obstacle, use Ultrahand to lift the hanging board upward and pin it out of the way using a nearby stake attached to the ceiling.

Once the path is clear, adjust the timing of your swing to hit the ball toward the right target. Successfully activating this switch unlocks a side cage containing a treasure chest with an Energizing Elixir inside. Alternative Methods for Easy Completion

While constructing a bat mechanism is the intended solution, Tears of the Kingdom allows players to solve puzzles using inventive workarounds. Players struggling with swing timing can attach bomb flowers to arrows and shoot the targets directly to trigger the mechanisms without launching balls.

Another method involves fusing a long pole with a stake and placing the ball directly against the target manually. The physics system in Hyrule rewards experimentation, making this shrine a great demonstration of player freedom.
